The Palovia unit does actually work ... it's not as effective as an office based device .... but it does work. I have absolutely no financial ties to Palomar, but they have very good data to support their claims. Do I think this is the best home use device in the world for skin rejuvenation? NO! The ReAura* is probably going to be regarded as a better, second generation laser. But this is only available in the UK and Holland.

NB. I sat on the Scientific Advisory Board for Solta Phillips ... so I am somewhat biased.

To my knowledge, NO ONE has had this pain for more than 3-4 weeks. Can you give us some feedback on your symptoms now that you are about 6 weeks out?

All great comments. Glad this is making a difference for you. I don't think that the CoolScupting device has been as effective for lateral thighs, medial thighs, proximal arms yet ... I know that they are working on optimizing the device for these areas.

The comments on increased density in the areas treated on your back are of particular interest to me. I have observed this personally, and believe that we should not be surprised that treated areas could become more 'fibrotic' ... this is after all based on chronic fat cell death in a panniculitic environment. Further, I think you can see evidence for this histologically. Should be pretty easy research project to analyze existing tissue for markers of new collagen.

I have had two sessions for upper and lower abdomen, back fat and upper hip area. The first was five months ago and treated six areas. The second session was one and a half months ago and treated four different areas. I took a Vicodin prior to each session and was comfortable with very little discomfort afterward and actually went to work the day after. I see improvement with upper and lower abdomen but no change with the upper hip area yet.

Concerning to me is that the back fat, bra line area treated five months ago has become dense bilaterally, well circumscribed and hard. I don't understand why these areas treated five months ago would be getting so dense within the last two weeks.

I will see my doctor an a couple of months for a follow up. She will probably want to retreat these two dense fatty back areas, but I am concerned that they may become even more dense.

Any recommendations?

Can someone please confirm for me that their pain stopped? I have never experienced pain like this in my life. I am so afraid that it is not going to go away. I can't sleep. I can't go to work. I can't shower because the warm water brings complete agony. I can't pick up my 18 month old daughter. I can't even sit down without having an ice pack on my belly area to ease the pain. I am absolutely terrified that this won't go away. I am into week 2 of this. Are you sure Dr. Zachary that no one has had this pain last forever?

There seems to be a lot of mention of numbness of the skin, and one can certainly see the redness as a result of the cold and suction process - however, has there been ant study of the effect of Zeltiq on a tattoo? I'd imagine there are people out there applying the treatment over their (hopefully healed) ink - I wonder what the effect might be... My experience is that the pain associated with this procedure is not as minimal as published - and more, that it can be much more incapacitating than what is billed. It's certainly not surgical, but it's also not without some prolonged effect to the nerves. Mine tingled, then sharply "zapped" me over a one.five week of recovery.

In addition, someone should study the effect of this procedure on Lipoma tumors to see if there are indications or differences in hardened or collected fat deposits.

Thanks for the great blog!

I had the Zeltiq done on my lower abdomen using the large applicator 4 days ago. The process was moderately painful as my entire lower stomach basically got suctioned right into the applicator. I found it really hard to breathe and was only able to take small short breaths during the procedure. I was numb for the first two days and not really that swollen. Since day three, I've started getting stabbing pains in my lower stomach. Today (day 4) has been the worst. I woke up in the middle of the night, from the pain. It's like the neurons in my stomach have gone haywire. They are firing in bursts, like someone is poking me with needles. It also varies in intensity and occurs in random areas on my lower abdomen. It's pretty unbearable and I have had to bite down on my lip in the office, to stop myself from suddenly yelping. I am confident that the procedure will help me, but gawd I am NEVER putting myself through such torture ever again. Thankfully my fiance had the common sense of asking me to only get one area done, otherwise I had booked an appointment for both my lower and upper abs.
