The Effects of Pulse Energy Variations on the Dimensions of Microscopic Thermal Treatment Zones in Nonablative Fractional Resurfacing

Purpose

New devices such as the Fraxel non-ablative and ablative lasers can be successfully launched and used extensively before fully comprehending the precise nature of the relationship of energy delivered and tissue response. This pivotal study is now quoted in most presentations on fractionated lasers as it describes the precisely linear association of energy deliered and dimensions of tissue injury.

Results

The Fraxel 1 SR laser system delivers pulses across a wide range of density and energy levels. The study determined that increases in pulse energy led to linear ncreases in microscopic thermal injury zone depth and width without compromising the structure or viability of interlesional tissue.
